Our Story

Our journey began with a single frustration: smart metering technology was powerful, but the choices, technical jargon and delivery logistics made it inaccessible for many South African buyers. We saw households, property managers and small businesses struggling to navigate the complexity.
So, we set out to change that. Combining two lifelong interests – technology and trusted service – we launched SMeter to act as the bridge: making the latest smart meters available, simplifying specifications, sourcing the best options with authorised partnerships, and ensuring a smooth buying experience online.

Two brains are better than one, especially if they were one at some point. Our co-founders are identical twins, using their combined brain power to source the most reliable smart metering technology and making it as easy as possible to buy using one of the most convenient online stores in South Africa. Smart metering can get complicated with a million choices and factors to take into consideration, but it doesn't have to be. We do the research and setup strategic partnerships, so you don't have to. Having a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering definitely helps to simplify complex solutions to make them easier to understand. Pieter's passion is to find creative solutions to solve everyday problems to benefit everyone without overcomplicating it. Boasting with 8 years of experience in the IoT sector, Pieter understands the different technologies and what benefits to extract from each of these. By building relationships and strategic partnerships it becomes easier to source the best quality products and make them accessible to everyone. Everyone should benefit from technological advancements without having to pay a premium for it.

Gerhard De Wet

Co-Founder

Having a degree in Electrical Engineering and a passion for software solutions enables Gerhard to make the most complex problems look like a walk in the park. With his experience as a CTO, we are guaranteed to have the best systems in place to make the online purchasing experience as convenient as possible. He is always committed to solving the issues at hand, regardless of the effort it sometimes requires. When faced with a tricky problem, where some would call it a hurdle, he would see it as a challenge.
